I taught middle school and high school writing and literature to at-risk, inner city youth for twelve years. I am also one of four founders of Satori, Inc., a community-based organization on the northwest side of Milwaukee.

I worked for a summer at a bed & breakfast in the Black Hills in South Dakota. I studied in London in 1993 & traveled in Europe that year. I went to a writing workshop in Spoleto, Italy in 2000. My girls and I are a saving money to visit Villetta Barrea, Italy (my family comes from there & we have recently been in touch with cousins who live there).
